Leadership Mississippi’s purpose is to identify and work with Mississippi leaders in strengthening our state by focusing on government and public affairs, economic development, environmental resources, health and education and quality of life.  By focusing on these five areas, Leadership Mississippi empowers participants with information to make a strong impact in our state.

Sessions were held across the state in Jackson, Hattiesburg, Tupelo, Biloxi, and Greenwood.

Leadership Mississippi has graduated 31 classes since 1973 and more than 1000 graduates are located across the state and nation.

The Leadership Mississippi program is endowed through a generous contribution by the late J.C. and Annie Redd. The program is conducted through the M.B. Swayze Educational Foundation, and created in 1978 by the Mississippi Economic Council.

Testimonials

Leadership Mississippi is an opportunity for leaders to network together and build positive relationships that will strengthen Mississippi by connecting us across the subjects that divide us.
Dave Dennis, Past Chair, Leadership Mississippi, 1994 Graduate Leadership Mississippi, President Specialty Contractors, Pass Christian

The Leadership Mississippi program has given me an appreciation of all the issues that impact Mississippi on a daily basis and the knowledge and network to improve and overcome the obstacles
Jeffrey Webster, Leadership Mississippi 2007, Director of Human Resources, Nissan North America, Inc.

Moving Leadership Mississippi across our beautiful state and highlighting the many areas where our citizens have made a difference in their communities, engages not only the current class participants but also gives the business and community leaders an opportunity to share what they have done to improve the quality of life for their friends and neighbors. This sharing and learning will help build friendships and relationships which are the basis for building consensus on issues that drive us toward solutions that will work for all of us.
Robin Robinson, Chair M.B. Swayze Educational Foundation, 1989 Graduate of Leadership Mississippi, Director of Organization Development & Corporate Communication, Sanderson Farms

Leadership Mississippi provides a unique opportunity for participants to meet many wonderful people, expand their knowledge of issues facing our state and local communities and to work together to make a difference. I value the relationships that were forged and the knowledge that I gained during the program, and can honestly say the experience continues to influence my live professionally and personally.
Melanie A. Morgan, First Vice President, 2003 Graduate of Leadership Mississippi, Director of Corporate Communications and Board Relations, Trustmark National Bank
